Watch nationally acclaimed sculptors at work
Tubac • A dozen top sculptors give demonstrations at K. Newby Gallery & Sculpture Garden February 11-13. Gallery regulars Star York, Bill Worrell, Mark White, David Unger, Rebecca Tobey, James G. Moore, Pokey Park, Connie Hendrix, and Jim Eppler are on hand, along with Gary Lee Price, Esther Benedict, and Joseph Lupiani, who are new to the gallery this year. Many are bringing works fresh from the foundry. In addition to demonstrations, there are scheduled talks by the artists, many of whom will also give tours of their pieces in the sculpture garden—a two-acre slice of the Sonoran Desert filled with nearly 40 works of art. Sculpture in the Garden is planned in conjunction with the Tubac Festival of the Arts, which takes place February 10-14. Now in its 51st year, it is the longest-running art festival in Arizona. More than 165 artists and artisans are juried into this year’s show. Artists’ booths line the streets and horse-drawn trolleys shuttle visitors around the historic village. Local art galleries also join in the festivities, presenting featured artists and demonstrations. With more than 30 galleries in town, there is plenty to see and do. Through the Painter’s Eye

Realist works on display at Scottsdale Fine Art
Scottsdale • The annual realism show at Scottsdale Fine Art showcases true-to-life renderings by five very different artists. David Gray’s figurative and still-life paintings reflect the classical realist tradition. Photorealistic pieces by Randy Ford capture snapshots of urban life. Camille Engel’s still lifes express the artfulness of everyday objects, while trompe l’oeil paintings by Jay Davenport exhibit a sense of humor and his love of animals. New to the mix this year is ceramic work by Karen Shapiro, who creates raku sculptures depicting icons of American pop culture. The show runs from January 28 to February 11, with an opening reception on Thursday, February 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information: 480.990.3100 or www.scottsdalefineart.com.

A Feast for the Eyes
Santa Fe • A full menu of events is planned for the weekend of February 26-28 during Santa Fe’s 13th annual ARTfeast. The fun starts on Friday with a luncheon and fashion show. That evening, the popular Edible Art Tour enlivens the city’s three art districts—Canyon Road, Downtown, and, for the first time this year, the newly developed Railyard district. Nearly 45 galleries present themed shows accompanied by culinary specialties prepared by local chefs. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, visitors can tour eight distinctive homes staged with art from Santa Fe galleries. The highlight of the weekend is the Saturday dinner and auction at La Posada, where expressionist painter Sam Scott will be recognized as this year’s honorary artist. Proceeds from ARTfeast benefit school art programs in Santa Fe. For more information and a full schedule of events: 505.603.4643 or www.artfeast.com.
